A popular event which was expected to attract 1,000 people this weekend has had to be postponed.
The 14th annual Burton Latimer Duck race was due to take place at the town’s Pocket Park, in Station Road, from 1pm on Sunday, June 10.
The premier attraction at the event is the duck race itself, where people bet on ducks which are released to travel down the nearby River Ise, with the winner scooping a prize.
But this morning, Friday, June 8, the organisers of the event had to take the decision to postpone the event because of the rain we have had during the past few days.
Organiser Maureen Jerram said: “We’ve had no choice but to postpone the event.
“The river is too high making it dangerous for the people who would be letting off the ducks and the park is so wet people would get stuck and it would the damage the site.
“We’re very disappointed and are doing our best to let as many people know as possible.”
It is hoped the event will go ahead before the end of this month but a date has yet to be announced.
