The owner of a popular Corby restaurant has spoken of his delight after winning a prestigious curry award.

The Royal Tandoori, in Rockingham Road, picked up the Best South Asian Restaurant in the East Midlands 2015 awards in London last week.

Designed to recognise excellence in the Asian catering industry, the awards were hosted TV presenter and Strictly Come Dancing winner Natasha Kaplinsky.

And owner Anwar Hussain – known to customers as Rocky – says the award is as a direct result of all of his staff’s hard work and effort.

He said: “I’m really proud and delighted to have picked up this award.

“It recognises the efforts of all of our staff and our customers consistently rate us.

“I have to give a lot of the credit to my father for setting up the business in the first place.

“Our family have owned it since 1988 and it feels really good to win the prize.”

The restaurant prides itself on varying traditional curries with new innovative dishes, with the menu changing every two to three months.

Mr Hussain added: “A lot of hard work has gone into this since we expanded from a takeaway to a restaurant in 2006.

“At first we only had 60 seats, but due to demand we’ve had to expand twice since then and build a brand new kitchen to cope with the demand.

“It’s taken a lot of long hours to make this what it is today, but it’s been worth it.”
