The organisers of last year’s Poppy Appeal have thanked people for their generosity in donating nearly £500,000. The final total will not be known until September, however, £446,552,83 has been raised so far in Northamptonshire.
The money raised will go to support serving and ex-service personnel, their families and dependents.
The Finedon, Irthlingborough and District branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL) has seen an increase in donations to the appeal this year.
Its chairman and poppy appeal organiser, Brian Walker, said donations had reached £8,761.62 so far. He said: “It is with a huge thank you to all our volunteer collectors and also all local businesses who kindly allowed collecting tins on their premises. Without their sterling efforts those serving and ex-serving members and their families who received assistance from the RBL would not have received help when they needed it.”
