Poppies player may have swine flu

A FOOTBALL club has revealed one of its players could have swine flu.

Kettering Town’s midfielder Andre Boucaud missed the Poppies’ return for pre-season training ahead of the new Blue Square Premier campaign, which kicks off in August.

Manager Mark Cooper revealed last season’s players’ player of the year may be suffering from swine flu.

He said: “Andre is ill and he might have swine flu. We can’t do much else at the moment apart from wait for the tests to come back.”

The news came yesterday as the Prime Minister told MPs the number of confirmed cases in the UK has risen to 6,538.

Gordon Brown said the number had risen from 2,236 last week and a “more flexible and local approach” would be used in hotspots.

He said the UK was still “well placed” to deal with the pandemic.

Mr Brown said: “We continue to monitor the situation closely, making sure arrangements are in place.”
