Worzel on tour with his scarecrow friends in Rushden

Did you see Worzel and his crew as they toured around the town on a 1940s tractor?

Worzel and his scarecrow friends have been spotted out and about in Rushden on a 1940s tractor.

If you look closely, you may notice that Worzel shares a strong resemblance to town mayor Cesare Marinaro.

And Aunt Sally looks quite like deputy mayor Melanie Coleman.

But regardless of that, why were they doing in Rushden on Wednesday?

A spokesman for Rushden Town Council said: "They had a good chat about the Rushden Garden Competition as they toured around Rushden on a 1940s tractor, even taking a look at some plants at Thing-Me-Jigz.

"Thank you to everyone who put some coins into the mayor's charity buckets to raise money for Rushden Mind and The Teenage Cancer Trust.

"A massive thank you to Worzel on tour and Festival Of Fuel who gave their time freely.

"And a thank you to Sharnbrook Mill Theatre Trust for the fabulous Aunt Sally costume."

Worzel on Tour was a way to promote the town's garden competition.

With the good weather and time in lockdown, lots of people will have taken the opportunity to do some work on the garden so the town council is keen to share the efforts of its green-fingered residents.

The competition categories are most improved garden (before and after photos needed), best flower pot man/scarecrow, best vegetable garden/allotment, best use of recycling in the garden, best children's garden and best overall garden.

The prizes will be a £50 voucher for the winner of each class to spend at West End DIY or Seasons Garden Centre in Burton Latimer.

Entries can be submitted until September 1, 2020‬.

All entries need to be emailed to [email protected] clearly stating what class you are entering your photos into.

A shortlist of entries will be drawn up by a panel of judges and the top 10 photos in each class will go to the public vote on Facebook.

Anyone entering the competition will be giving permission for their photos to be used on Rushden Town Council's website, social media and in print.
