Small businesses in Corby will soon be able to apply for a share of a new pot of cash to help them through the coronavirus crisis.

Corby Council has been given a total of £681,000 after the Government's recent guidance to support those not eligible for a grant under the Small Business Grant and Retail, Hospitality and Leisure scheme.

From June 1 businesses will be able to apply for a grant to help them through the pandemic with an online application process open for three days.

All applications will be reviewed by the council before funding is distributed to those successful.

The council will be prioritising the following types of businesses:

- Small businesses in shared offices or other flexible workspaces. Examples could include units in industrial parks, science parks and incubators which do not have their own business rates assessment

- Bed and breakfasts which pay council tax instead of business rates

Leader of Corby Council, Cllr Tom Beattie, said: “The funding from the government to support as many businesses as we can in the current situation is very welcome.

"I would urge small businesses to look into whether they may be eligible for this grant and if so, please don’t miss your chance to apply.

"We are hopeful that businesses can start to reopen in the near future, but in such unprecedented times, we want to ensure our local businesses receive the financial help they need.”
