Plans have been submitted to North Northants Council (NNC) to convert a closed-down arts and crafts and vintage store in Kettering into a 10-person house in multiple occupation (HMO).

The property at 2 Tresham Street sits in a largely residential area just outside the town centre.

Planning permission is sought for the conversion of the premises into 10 bedrooms, all with their own en-suites and communal kitchen and lounge areas.

Owners of the ‘Much Loved’ vintage and craft shop announced on their Facebook page that the store closed its doors for the last time on Saturday, November 30, after 15 years of trading.

The change of use application for the building was sent to the council the week prior by the applicant Anjum Design Ltd.

Design floorplans submitted alongside the application show a proposed seven bedrooms on the ground floor, with another three rooms upstairs.

Half the rooms will be studios with their own kitchenette areas and the remaining five beds will share a communal kitchen/living area downstairs.

The proposals include minimal external alterations.

There are currently no on-site parking spaces, and the applicant has not proposed any be added for the 10-person home.

A cycle store has been offered within the site.

The applicant wrote that the site is in a sustainable location, close to the town centre and facilities and would be an ‘effective’ use of brownfield land.

Comments from neighbours and interested parties are due by the end of December.

A decision on the HMO conversion has been set for January 17, 2025.
