POLICE are warning young people of the dangers of being tempted into cut-price tattooing at unregistered premises.

PC Mark Jones of Northamptonshire Police’s Wellingborough Safer Community Team said: “Over the past year we have been working with Health Protection Officers and we know that there is a worrying trend of untrained people offering cheap tattooing in unregistered premises.

“Not only is it illegal to tattoo someone under the age of 18, it brings with it the real risk of very serious infection.

“We want to send out a clear message that anybody setting up as a tattooist should be fully trained and registered by the local Health Authority.

“If they are not, steer clear of them, do not put your health at risk, and please let the police know who they are.”
