Police arrest 11 at British Grand Prix in Silverstone

There were only eight crimes recorded over the four days of the operation.

That compares to 17 crimes recorded by the end of the main race last year, and 33 at the same point in 2014.

Officers have arrested a total of 11 people for offences ranging from thefts from tents, assault, burglary and drugs offences.

Chief Superintendent Mick Stamper, who led the policing operation for Northamptonshire Police, said: “More than 200,000 fans passed through Silverstone’s gates today for the main race.

“They made up a brilliant crowd and created a great atmosphere.

“Our policing operation took months of planning and has been a great success with the level of crime at its lowest ever, so it’s been a very satisfying operation for us.

“My officers have been proactively patrolling the circuit and the campsites this year, working alongside armed officers and the circuit’s security staff to provide a very visible presence.

“I’d like to thank everybody involved in the operation for their hard work and diligence.”
