West Lodge Rural Centre in Back Lane hopes to convert a storage barn into a rural-themed indoor play facility, and expand its restaurant.

It also hopes to create a farm shop, selling produce from the centre, as well as increasing the car park by 50 spaces with an additional overflow car park.

If approved, the plans would create 13 more full-time jobs.

The rural centre was opened in 1995 by the Dee family, who have farmed there for three generations.

Their mission is to share their enthusiasm for the countryside at a place where children and adults can have hands-on experiences of country life, with animals, nature walks and machinery.

It is visited by up to 12,000 children on school trips each year.

A decision is expected by July 27 this year.
