Plans for homes to replace old club

A DERELICT working men’s club in a conservation area could be replaced by 10 new affordable homes.

Lodge Park Ltd has applied to replace the working men’s club on the corner of Finedon Street and Spencer Street, Burton Latimer, which closed in August 2010, with four one-bedroom flats, two two-bedroom houses and four three-bedroom houses.

Fergus Macdonald, mayor of Burton Latimer, said: “It has been an eyesore for far too long. It would be desirable to get something moving on that site.”

Vandals had targeted the site several times causing severe damage to internal fixtures and fittings since it was vacated despite the building being secured several times.

The new homes would be in three blocks around a car park with eight spaces. Each of the six houses would have sheds with parking for two bicycles.

Neighbours and other interested parties have until April 2 to comment to Kettering Council. For details look for the application KET/2012/0133 at
