A developer is hoping to provide affordable housing with plans for 50 new homes in Wellingborough.

Martin King Construction Ltd is behind the proposed development on the site of a former abattoir in Irthlingborough Road in the town.

If approved, it will offer a range of two and three-bed family homes ranging in price from £100,000 for a two-bed to £130,000 for a three-bed property.

Martin King Construction Ltd is owned and run by county businessman John Martin.

Having grown up in the Northampton area and from his early days of successfully franchising the KFC brand within the Northamptonshire area through to the building of a local hospital and the running of a local garden centre with his daughter, he said he is looking to give something back to the community through this development of affordable housing within the community.

Mr Martin said: “Not only will this provide a fantastic opportunity for the local community, but it will offer an affordable housing supply in the area and also boost the economy in Wellingborough by supporting local tradesmen with over 90 per cent of people from the local area.”

The development is due to be considered by Wellingborough Council’s planning committee in the near future.

If councillors approve the plans, it is hoped the homes will be available to buy from 2016.
