PLANS for a council to use its powers of compulsory purchase to buy a former shops area have got the final go-ahead from councillors.
Wellingborough Council’s resources committee backed plans to use a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) to acquire land at 66-74 Lea Way in Wellingborough at a meeting on March 21.
The buildings on the site used to be a mini supermarket and shops but have been shut for four years. Since then the land has become a hotspot for anti-social behaviour.
Ward councillors said the site had suffered with issues including littering and fires in garages.
At a full council meeting on Tuesday councillors backed the resources committee’s decision to use a CPO to acquire the land.
