Plans to build a new medical centre and pharmacy on the site of a former estate pub in Wellingborough have been approved by councillors.

Dr Andrew Wainwright of the Queensway Medical Practice applied to Wellingborough Council last year for planning permission

to redevelop the site of the former Eagle public house, on the corner of Olympic Way and Queensway in Wellingborough.

The council’s planning committee discussed the plans last night and voted to approve the application, which sought permission to redevelop the site to create a community medical centre with a pharmacy and parking.

The new centre will replace the existing Queensway Medical Practice in Olympic Way, which was built more than 50 years ago and was originally intended to accommodate the medical practice for about 15 years.

The Eagle pub was knocked down in August last year. The building suffered extensive damage in a fire in 2009.
