Four customers from the Corby LIVE team at Northamptonshire Adult Social Services were the first participants in a project to engage people in the community through photography.
Corby Photovoice, a project facilitated by the Neighbourhood Management Team at Corby Council, sees participants’ photographs displayed in the Cube foyer.
Some of the favourite places captured are in and around Corby Old Village and also at East Carlton Park.
Lizzie Hudson, community engagement and business support officer at Corby Council, said: “Not everyone is able to engage with us easily through traditional methods and my hope is for Photovoice projects to continue to offer an alternative method of communication that has the potential to reach a wider range of Corby residents.
“The Corby LIVE team have been a brilliant support in our campaigns around litter and have been a fantastic group to start working with on this project.”
The Corby LIVE (Learning, Independence, Volunteering, Employment) team work with adults with learning disabilities to have a person centred service that will raise customer learning and employment aspirations, provide real voluntary and job related opportunities and encourage our customers to be the best they can be.
They provide real opportunities for work and volunteering in the local area, vocational training, development plans and can also provide vocational profiling and look for employment for 16 hours or less for our customers.
Corby Photovoice was inspired by the national charity PhotoVoice, of which training from was also undertaken.
Nic Pursey from PhotoVoice said: “Participatory photography is an ideal medium to raise awareness of the issues of individuals and groups that may experience difficulty in getting their voices heard.
“PhotoVoice has trained many facilitators to work with a range of organisations across a variety of issues.
“We are delighted to have been able to support this worthwhile project.”
