A petition has been launched in support of providing an area where youngsters can play football and basketball on an estate in Wellingborough.
Dad Gary Craig feels there is not enough provision for youngsters who want to play football and basketball near Minerva Way on the Queensway estate so he has launched a petition to try and rectify this.
We need a football pitch because there isn’t one hereGary Craig
He has been knocking on doors on the estate to gain support and has already gathered about 200 names, but he is keen to hear from anyone else who would like to sign the petition.
Mr Craig said: “We need a football pitch because there isn’t one here.”
He lives near the park, which is just off Minerva Way, where he would like to see something provided where youngsters can play the two sports which he says are popular in the area.
Mr Craig, a father-of-six, said that young people go to the park and put the swings back behind the bars so they can use the frames to create a football pitch.
He said they also play near the garages, which have broken doors and he believes it is not safe for them to play there.
Mr Craid added: “It’s about having an area for them to go to.”
He has contacted one of the councillors for the ward, Andrew Scarborough, asking for his support and once he has collected some more names, Mr Craig is hoping to hand his petition over to Wellingborough Council to see if they can help with his request.
Anyone who would like to sign the petition or would like more information can call Gary on 01933 677219.
