Dog and cat owners in Corby are being encouraged to attend a microchipping event this weekend (November 30 – December ) to help protect their pets from being lost or stolen.

An important part of responsible pet ownership, microchipping is the most effective way of increasing the chances of a missing pet being returned safely to its owner.

Held at Pets at Home Corby, in Phoenix Way, owners can take their cat or dog to the store during opening hours on Saturday or Sunday and get their pet microchipped for the special rate of just £10 (usually £15).

To help owners meet the government deadlines of compulsory microchipping (2015 in Wales and 2016 in England), Pets at Home Corby can microchip at any time during the year.

The Corby store team makes it very easy for pet owners to drop in and make use of the microchipping service. And for the majority of pet owners, the peace of mind guarantee is worth the cost.

Matt Kennedy , store manager at Pets at Home Corby, said: “As we’re coming up to Christmas we want to avoid any stress or heartache for pets and their owners. Microchipping in its simplest terms means that if your cat or dog is lost or stolen there is a better chance they will be returned to you.

“It’s an easy, relatively painless service, that we’re already seeing the benefits from with many of our customers telling us stories they’ve heard of missing pets being reunited with their owners.”

The chip is roughly the size of a grain of rice, fits under the pet’s skin and contains information about its owner, making it easier for both to be reunited should they become separated for whatever reason.

At Pets at Home, when a chip is implanted every pet is given a unique code number, which is then stored along with the owner’s contact details on the UK’s largest registration database, Petlog.
