Work to build 88 homes in Irthlingborough is under way.

The development, by Leicestershire-based Davidsons Homes, will see the houses built on land to the north of Nene Business Park, near the former home of Rushden & Diamonds FC.

It will see a number of one, two, three and four-bedroom homes built as well as a children’s playground and an area of natural open space around a balancing pond.

After East Northants Council approved the plan in September Section 106 agreements totalling £900,000 towards the community were pledged.

They include: £314,000 to local secondary schools, £280,000 to local primary schools, £150,000 for the local bus service (over five years), £62,000 to the Spinney Brook Medical Centre in Irthlingborough, £19,000 to Irthlingborough Library, £30,000 in ecology contributions and £23,000 to the Upper Nene Valley Gravel Pits Special Protection Area.

Simon Tyler, head of sales for Davidsons Homes South Midlands said: “There’s a growing need for quality new homes in Northamptonshire and we’re helping to meet this need with this well-designed development in Irthlingborough.

“As the contributions show, we’re not just about crafting new homes with traditional values at Davidsons though. We’re also about serious investment in the communities in which we’re building."
