Staff at Redwell Primary School decided to thank parents for their generosity at Christmas but asked parents to not buy staff gifts.

Instead they asked parents who wanted to to donate a small amount that the children could then decide on local charities to support.

School council members decided to donate all of the money raised to two local charities - Kettering General Hospital’s Skylark (children's) Ward Baby Unit and We Mind & Kelly Matters – a Wellingborough charity that supports mental health.

Mrs Ansell said: "The staff felt that this was a great way for the whole community to support local charities and we have managed to provide a selection of blankets, clothes and toys for the Kettering General Hospital baby unit as well as making a donation to We Mind & Kelly Matters."

Further donations were also made at the school’s Christmas productions.
