An army of volunteers are sewing scrubs for Northamptonshire's hospitals and GP surgeries - and they need your help.

The NHS is being tested like never before and manufacturing companies are struggling to keep up with the demand for unprecedented quantities.

With the nation in lockdown, volunteers across the county are giving up their time to make sure nobody keeping us safe from coronavirus is without the clothing protection they so desperately need.

Ashleigh Lindsell set up volunteer group “For the Love of Scrubs” to do this very thing - and the response has been amazing.

One of the scheme's coordinators, primary school teacher Katie Rashid, said: "It has been heart-warming to see so many people be supportive because they know someone who works for the NHS or want to do their bit.

"The generosity of people who have donated so far has also been outstanding - it's so uplifting to see people coming forward to help their country."

The group of local seamstresses already have an order from Kettering General Hospital and now they are seeking your help to function.

If you are a seamstress with a skill set that could help them, you can visit their Facebook page ‘Scrubs up for Northants NHS’, to register your interest.

They will then contact you and supply you with details of how you can help including friendly guidance and information on what to make and how to follow manufacturing quality and guidance.

If you can't sew, you can still donate by visiting the group's fundraising page page. So far more than £1,000 has been pledged for materials.

Katie, 30, added: "We are armed with a huge group of local heroes who want to sew.

"We have had huge numbers get in touch to help already but we need other people's support, whether you are a sewer or not a sewer."

People are urged not to make items and take them to the hospitals themselves. The group has its own organised delivery service to support safe logistics.
