The top 32 World Book Day costumes chosen by children in north Northamptonshire - including Captain Sir Tom Moore

Northamptonshire children have dressed up as some pretty cool characters today from famous, internationally known and well-loved books.

Today, for those who don't know, it's World Book Day, where every child in full-time education in the UK is given a £1 voucher to spend on books in a bid to get children into reading.

To celebrate the day, youngsters are also encouraged to dress-up as their favourite book characters.

This year’s World Book Day - the 24th one in history - falls on Thursday 4 March 2021. The event is always held on the first Thursday of March each year.

The date was chosen because it was the anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, a prominent Spanish Chronicler.

Some school children from Northamptonshire are now barely recognisable as they get into the spirit of the day.

So-far, we've seen Harry Potter, Captain Jack Sparrow, superheroes and some animal magic in a range of outstanding outfits from all of you.

Thank you to everyone who sent a photograph to celebrate World Book Day - you can still send in your photos here and we hope you enjoy your day.

A full list of the books available using the £1 scheme is available to view on the World Book Day website.
