Selfless Irthlingborough girl chops off 13 inches of hair after seeing childhood cancer sufferer on TV

A young girl has selflessly chopped off more than a foot of her waist length hair to help childhood cancer sufferers.

Freya Moth, from Irthlingborough, has always had long hair and has previously been really protective over it.

But when the seven-year-old saw a young girl who had lost all of her hair because of cancer, Freya wanted to do something to help.

Keeley, Freya’s mum, said: “When she saw the little girl on TV who had lost some of her hair, Freya asked what had happened.

“So we sat down and explained it to her and she said she wanted to give the little girl some of her own hair.

“Freya has a medical condition herself and last year she did have some bald patches that really upset her, but she could hide them, so when she saw the girl on TV I think she just really wanted to help.

“We told her that we wouldn’t be able to help that girl but that we could help someone else.”

Keeley got in touch with the Little Princess Trust, a charity that provides real hair wigs for children and young people with hair loss, to organise the donation.

To make the wigs, it costs the charity around £550, so Freya was also adamant that she would raise that amount of money to donate alongside her hair.

Prior to having her hair cut today (July 23) by local hairdresser Claire Roberts, who kindly offered to do the chop free of charge, Freya had already smashed her fundraising target.

Keeley added: “Freya has always been protective over her hair. She refused to have it trimmed for a long time so the fact that she is doing it is amazing.

“I am so proud of her.”
