Children can now post their letters to Santa in Higham Ferrers - and raise funds to help staff on the Covid-19 frontline at KGH in the process.

Stuart Staines, 49, is running a Santa letter writing service and will illuminate his house with a Christmas display later on this month.

For years he has put up a lights display but decided to start raising money for the Rothwell Road hospital after the death of Burton Latimer's Jamie Bellamy, who he knew, earlier this year. Jamie, who was just 38, died after testing positive for coronavirus.

Every penny he raises - with more than £300 donated so far - will be given to KGH to help staff at the forefront of the hospital's battle against the virus.

Stuart, who works in the NHS sector, said: "KGH have told me about the mental health strain it (the pandemic) is putting on NHS staff working in Covid areas.

"This money will go a long way to helping staff affected by it."

Anyone who wants to write to Santa should send their letters, with their own name and address, to the following:

Santa,

15 Townsend Leys

Higham Ferrers

Northants

NN10 8LW

Elves will then deliver the letters to the North Pole and Santa will reply. There's no cost for the service but donations can be made by clicking here.

Stuart said: "Santa has agreed that all the staff at Kettering need a bit of festive cheer so he has helped to sponsor the event and will take the time to write to every child who sends him a Christmas letter.

"All you need to do is ensure the child's name and address is on your letter and Santa will do the rest."

And Stuart's Townsend Leys home - which now has a red Santa postbox - will also feature a Christmas lights display which will be turned on from November 27.

The display, which also has a 7ft tree kindly provided by sponsors Welford Christmas Tree Farm, promises to be "quality and bright" with a blue NHS twist.

Stuart encouraged families to come and have a look at the display when it is switched on later this month.

He said: "We're giving something back to the community and what better way to do it."
