Salvation Army thanks Kettering for Christmas appeal support

The Salvation Army received 220 parcels of toys, food, and gifts suitable for the elderly in the weeks before Christmas.

The parcels were given to more than 500 people.

Major Nigel Govier, the commanding officer at Kettering Salvation Army, extended their thanks to all who had supported their appeal.

Major Govier said: "A big thank you to all who during yet another Christmas helped us to help others.

"Excellent support was given by local stores Wilkinson's and Superdrug, acting as collection points for the public to leave their gifts, while other local businesses donated food and goods."

Several schools and churches also passed on gifts from their Christmas events and toy services to the appeal.

On Sunday, December 22, three carol services at The Salvation Army hall in Rockingham Road raised more than £2,300 through collections.

Some of the money raised will go to cover the food purchased for Christmas parcels while the rest will fund the Kettering Salvation Army's 'drop-in' project, which provides breakfast for the homeless and street sleepers three times a week.

The Salvation Army are also planning to provide shower and laundry facilities for those who use the drop-in centre.
