Pensioner escapes with "no serious injuries" as car smashes into house in Earls Barton

Police say a pensioner escaped serious injury after an horrific crash in Earls Barton last night.

An air ambulance was summoned after a red Fiat 500 mounted the footpath and collided with a pedestrian at around 6.20pm on Tuesday (June 23).

Officers are investigating how the Fiat came to leave the road, collide with a parked Hyundai i10 and wind up on the drive of a house in Elizabeth Way in the village.

Two crews from Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue also dashed to the scene while an air ambulance landed on a nearby sports field.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: "The Fiat 500 was travelling along Elizabeth Way when it mounted the curb for reasons unknown and collided with a pedestrian, a man believed to be in his 80s, before also colliding with another vehicle.

"The air ambulance was called as a precaution considering the pedestrian's age but, thankfully, they were not seriously injured.

"The collision is being investigated but we are appealing for anyone who was in the area of Elizabeth Way and Townley Way and who may have witnessed the incident to please call us on 101."
