Northamptonshire police officer tragically dies on duty

Northamptonshire Police officers were in mourning today after a serving officer died while on duty.

Sergeant Paul Keany, who worked in Kettering, died yesterday evening (Wednesday, March 11).

Many officers have changed their social media profile pictures to mark his death and some have posted tributes to him. One student PC said that Sgt Keany had interviewed them when they joined the force, adding: "He is one of the nicest people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting."

A Northamptonshire Police spokeswoman said: "We are very sad to confirm the death of one of our serving officers, Sergeant Paul Keany, who died while on duty yesterday evening.

“Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this devastating time.

“Sergeant Keany was an extremely popular officer and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.”

Sgt Keany's death is not being treated as suspicious and his family has asked for privacy.
