Earlier this month, Northamptonshire nine-year-old Arthur Hishin was still finding his feet on his bike.

But now, the young lad from Slipton has found his confidence in the saddle - and is using it to raise hundreds of pounds for the NHS.

After mastering how to ride his bike in the first week of May, Arthur has pledged to ride his bike for a mile every day until the lockdown ends to raise money for NHS Charities Together.

He set out with a considerable goal of £150 - but in just two weeks has already smashed his target and raised over £600.

Arthur said: "I hope it will go towards finding the medicine to cure Covid-19.

"I struggled to learn to ride my bike because I was going too fast to get my balance. Now I've found my confidence.

"It felt mind-blowing and I felt really proud. Then, on VE Day, I saw all the fundraising and it gave me the idea."

Now, Arthur has set up a JustGiving page and has pledged to cycle for a mile every day in his village until the lockdown ends.

The nine-year-old said: "I go out with my mum and my little sister Mabel and ride for a mile. I get a bit tired by the end. There are lots of hills where I live so I can go really fast."

In just two weeks, more than 30 donators have helped the Year 4 pupil smash his target and have raised over £620 for NHS Charities Together.

Mum Vicky said: "I'm so proud of him. It's wonderful and quite heart-wrenching that a child wants to do something for charity."
