Owners of Rushden Lakes The Crown Estate, will submit an updated application for a link road between Ditchford Road and Rushden Lakes to East Northamptonshire Council on April 27.

A previous application for the road was approved last October to help improve the flow of traffic into Rushden Lakes by providing an alternative route for those travelling from Ditchford Road. Since it opened in 2017 the shopping Mecca has proved a huge hit with shoppers but has led to traffic snarl ups in the nearby area.

In a media statement released today the developer, which is now progressing its Land to the West scheme, said the link road scheme will help encourage more sustainable travel.

“This latest, updated design of the link road, will be pedestrian and cyclist friendly in order to encourage more sustainable travel locally. It will also include space for tree planting to add to the character of the local area.

The road will also help to facilitate The Crown Estate’s wider vision for the Land to the West of Rushden Lakes site, where it is in the process of exploring the opportunity to deliver new homes to help meet local need, as well as creating, new green connections, and high-quality workspace.”

The developer says the updated link road application is not anticipated to impact the timing of delivering the link road which is due to be built and operational towards the end of 2021.
