Kettering's Olivia is on a 100km mission

A teenage footballer from Kettering is putting her lockdown exercise to good use to raise money for a children's cancer charity.

Midfielder Olivia Aston, 13, started running to keep up her fitness in preparation for being able to play football again for Kettering FC Under 13 Girls once coronavirus restrictions ease.

She decided to try and raise some money in doing so for CLIC Sargent, a cancer charity which helps young people, and set herself a goal of running 100km in May - an average of 3.2km a day.

She's now more than halfway there and has raised more than £600 in the process.

Olivia, who also plays futsal and boxes, said: "A lot of people are raising money for charities to help those with cancer but mostly it's for adults, so I thought I would try and help the young people.

"I think it's going okay so far, but I'm starting to get sore knees!"

Mum Mandy, who works in administration at a GP surgery, said: "I'm proud of her.

"She could have just sat upstairs playing on her Xbox but she has gone out there and done something that will help other people."
