Coronavirus won't stop Wicksteed Park doing what it has done for almost 100 years - helping people have fun.

The popular Kettering park, which has closed its rides and attractions because of the pandemic, has launched its 'Smile With Wicky' campaign to help entertain people during the lockdown, starting with a new song written and performed by their staff and entertainments team and featuring Wicky Bear.

But it's hoped it will create a lasting legacy way beyond the current Covid-19 situation and make a mountain of happy, positive memories.

People can film and share their own renditions of the song on the park's Facebook page or on Twitter with #smilewithwicky and tagging @wicksteedpark. The lyrics are available on the park's website at www.wicksteedpark.org/smilewithwicky.

Wicksteed Park’s head of sales and marketing Rachel James said she wanted people to help the park come up with more fun ideas which could become part of the campaign.

She said: “The park has been part of the local community for almost 100 years and, even though we have had to close all our rides and attractions at the moment, that doesn’t mean the fun has to stop.

“We have been overwhelmed with all the positive messages and support the park has received during what is a challenging time for everyone and want to continue doing what we have done for so many years - which is to help people have a good time and create great memories.

“So join in, let’s see and hear everyone’s version of the new Wicky song and let’s have some fun.

"We hope this is just the start and that the Smile With Wicky campaign can be a lasting initiative and will be something positive to come out of the current situation.”

The park is also sharing people’s happy memories of “Wicky’s” on the Smile With Wicky web page and is appealing for more people to send in their positive stories.
