Members of a Kettering community choir rallied round to help the Salvation Army's Christmas parcels scheme.

The Salvation Army would usually hold a Christmas carol service each year, with three services on the Sunday before Christmas, and the funds raised from bucket collections are used to purchase food and gifts which make up Christmas parcels.

The parcels are distributed amongst families in need who have been referred to the Kettering branch from authorised agencies but Covid restrictions have left them with the dilemma of how to fill the parcels, with normal fundraisers unable to be held.

And the Cransley Hospice Community Choir (CHCC) have stepped up to help, making sure they don't let Covid dampen their spirit of goodwill.

Choir administrator Pamela Humphrey said: “I very quickly saw an opportunity for CHCC to help out.

“They (the Salvation Army) are so accommodating when we use their premises for rehearsals and go beyond helpful when we diarise a concert there.”

Pam contacted members of the choir to see if they would like to make a voluntary donation to the appeal.

And she got a huge response - meaning they could donate several bags and boxes of essentials and festive treats.

Pam said: “I have been overwhelmed how everyone has responded to supporting this food donation appeal."

Cransley Hospice Community Choir leader, Ruth Humphrey, has been conducting rehearsals online during the pandemic.

She is looking forward to being able to rehearse with everyone together at the Salvation Army and hold fundraising concerts again, to support the specialist palliative care provided

by Cransley Hospice, when the Government restrictions allow.
