Illegal Corby rave sees 1,000 revellers at industrial unit

About 1,000 partygoers celebrated the new year at an illegal rave on a Corby industrial estate.

Music boomed through the night at the disused NSUK unit in Shelton Road on the Willowbrook East estate until the event was closed at about 2pm on New Year's Day.

Revellers set up the rave after breaking a padlock to get into the warehouse, which was formerly used to make car accessories.

Legal notices claiming squatters' rights were tied to a fence at the entrance to the site.

Rubbish was strewn across the yard including discarded drug baggies, nitrous oxide canisters, empty glow stick boxes, alcohol bottles, balloons and food containers.

A police spokesman said a few officers attended but there was no trouble and no arrests were made.

The spokesman said they received about 15 calls from residents complaining about the noise.
