A Wellingborough group will restart their organised weekend walks programme after their enforced break due to the coronavirus lockdown.

The Waendel Walkers Club will resume their Sunday selection of self-guided circular routes starting on September 27 from The Lilacs pub in Isham - and they will be free to enter.

Entrants register after 10am and can choose a six or 12-mile route, walking at their own pace in a group or on their own following a free route map.

Peter Rickwood, Waendel Walkers Club secretary, said: "We're glad to be back. We have decided that the remainder of our 2020 Sunday walks will be free of charge in order to avoid cash handling, although once we return to normality anyone who has walked with us and would like to make a small voluntary donation may do so.

"Every walker has a card and the walk leader makes sure that all the cards are collected in at the end of the walk.

"We make sure that all the walkers are accounted for and they have a phone number to call and we take their mobile number."

The first walk starts from The Lilacs pub in Isham on September 27. On Sunday, October 11 the walk starts from The Dukes Arms in Woodford and a fortnight later, on October 25, the club will travel to St Neots for a riverside walk.
