Demolition work under way to prepare for Kettering's £3.9m GLaM project
The GLaM will open next year
Preparatory began today (Wednesday) to make way for the start of Kettering s much-anticipated £3.9m GLaM project - an extension to the town's gallery, library and museum.Demolition experts were taking down a workshop outbuilding in the corner of North Northamptonshire Council's (NNC) Bowling Green Road offices to allow for plant equipment to manoeuvre on to the site.
In February, despite a hard-fought campaign, two large trees were felled to clear space for the works, with several others transplanted.
Shoppers and workers who use Kettering's London Road car park will have to be prepared to find an alternative place to park as the town centre GLaM project gets under way.
NNC has warned users of the car park, that serves motorists accessing town centre facilites from the south, that its capacity will be reduced.
Three adjacent Grade II listed buildings in Sheep Street which are collectively labelled GLaM (Kettering Gallery, Library and Museum) will be renovated to create a ‘cultural anchor’ for north Northamptonshire.
