Corby festival Museum of the Moon attraction is out of this world

A full moon will be seen over Corby all this week come rain or shine when an enormous 3-D model of the lunar surface will be on show from today (Tuesday) until Saturday.

Museum of the Moon, an artwork created by Luke Jerram, has been touring the world wowing audiences and will form a curtain-raiser to this weekend's Grow Festival.

Visitors will be able to sit under the giant illuminated sphere and take in the highly-detailed moon surface, coming up close to its multitude of craters.

Self-confessed moon fan Ann Leonard who was one of the first visitors through the door of the Core theatre, said: "It's amazing. I just love the model and I love the moon.

"I've got hundreds of pictures of the actual moon - I bought a special camera so I could take photos of it but now I've got the opportunity to see it really up close.

"My eyesight is going so it's great for me."

Measuring seven metres (23 ft) in diameter, the moon features highly detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface using a scale where each centimetre of the internally-lit spherical sculpture represents 5km of the moon’s surface.

Accompanying the visuals is a surround sound composition created by BAFTA and Ivor Novello award-winning composer Dan Jones.

Core director, Joe Flavin said: "It's an out-of-this-world experience.

"It'll be a chance to come in and sit down and for people to relax and then realise how small we are in the grand scheme of things.

"The arts are key to economic recovery. Cafe culture goes hand-in-hand with art and culture, drawing people into the town centre and the theatre."

Entry to the Museum of the Moon is free all week until Saturday night when the festival closes with a lunar rave at the Full Moon Party.

DJ Barbwire will be raising the roof taking party-goers on a euphoric journey through rave culture, from the summer of love to contemporary jungle and drum 'n' bass.

The Museum of the Moon can been seen: Tuesday, February 4 from 11am to 7pm; Wednesday, February 5 11am to 5pm; Thursday, February 6 from 11am to 7pm; Friday, February 7 from 6pm to 9pm and Saturday, February 8 from 11am – 5pm.
