Battered cop Lucie Clark says she has been overwhelmed by 'get well soon' messages from her old pals at Northamptonshire Police following a horrific road accident.

Lucie, who swapped Forces with a move to London last September after 14½ years at Wootton Hall, suffered facial injuries in a road accident on her way to work.

But she admitted: "I didn’t cry when I was hit by the van and I didn’t even cry when the doctors started to poke and prod me .. however when I received delivery of these beautiful flowers from Chief Constable Nick Adderley and my ex colleagues I'not ashamed to admit that the flood gates well and truly opened.

"It’s not often that I’m left at a loss for words, but this incredibly kind and generous gesture left me absolutely speechless!"

"To take the time to not only acknowledge the fact that I had been involved in an RTC despite no longer being an employee of Northants Police, but to then go to the effort of sending such beautiful flowers and THEN sending my Mum such a warm and heartfelt email — which she is absolutely beaming over and incredibly proud — is a true testament of what a great leader he is."

Mr Adderley said: "We are incredibly proud of Lucie and she is sorely missed here in Northants.

"It was my absolute pleasure to send a little message of support and we really do wish Lucie a speedy recovery."

Lucie suffered her injuries on her way to work with the Met Police and revealed how one of London's homeless helped her after the crash.

She quipped: "I tried and take on a van with my face! Sadly I lost!

"After several days in University College London hospital receiving the best care, I am now back home recovering.

"My five-year-old niece went to hug me but then recoiled with the most horrified look on her face, saying; “You smell of cuts and bruises!

"But I would like to thank my Met Police colleagues for coming to my assistance, the amazing paramedics for the great medical care and attention that they gave me at the scene and on the way to hospital and also to all of the staff at UCLH who looked after me so well.

"Finally a massive shout out to the homeless male who confiscated the van driver’s keys and refused to return them to prevent him from fleeing the scene! I hope I get to meet him again as I owe him big time!"
