All inquests in Northamptonshire suspended until September in face of coronavirus measures

All inquest hearings in Northamptonshire have been suspended in a bid to combat the spread of coronavirus.

The senior coroner for the county Anne Pember announced today (March 24) that all hearings listed from this month until September 1 have been postponed.

The formal hearings are held to determine the cause of a person's death in unusual circumstances.

Senior coroner Anne Pember announced in a statement: "In view of the present Covid-19 situation, it is with regret that I need to inform you that all inquests listed between now and September 1, 2020, have been suspended until further notice.

"I will review the situation on July 31."

Meanwhile, no more criminal trials will start from today to protect jurors from the spread of coronavirus.

And Government guidance has asked for the public to cancel public gatherings like weddings and christenings, with an exception for funerals.
