People lined the streets of Rothwell to watch the town’s carnival parade this afternoon.

The carnival floats assembled at the top of Moorfield Road in the town at 12.30pm for judging before the parade set off at about 1.30pm, travelling along Harrington Road, Fox Street, High Street, Bridge Street, Bell Hill, Rock Hill, Rushton Road, Cecil Street, Tresham Street and on to the market place at Market Hill.

The parade eventually arrived at Manor Park, where celebrations continued with a fete.

Entertainment at the fete is set to include performances from the Moulton Morris Men, Sahara Belly Dance and Attitude Dance.

Malcolm Harris, of Hospital Hill, Rothwell, said he was impressed with this year’s parade. He said: “It was good this year, there was more of the bigger lorries, there were some good floats, and the sun came out just in time.”

Ivor Hunt, of Spencer Street, Rothwell, said: “It was fantastic.”
