Fitness fans and sports people of all ages have welcomed the changes made at a sports centre in Rushden.
The refurbished Pemberton Centre in H E Bates Way re-opened on Monday, November 11, revealing the results of its £1.6m makeover.
Offices have been moved and the layout changed, and the centre now has two fitness studios, including an area dedicated to weights, a new creche area with its own toilets, and the changing rooms have been completely refitted.
The large fitness suite has 100 workstations compared with the previous 72 and all the equipment is new.
The popular squash court has been refurbished and there are two multi-use studios.
For those who like to keep fit by cycling, there is a new studio dedicated to group cycling and spin classes.
The centre’s heating and air-conditioning has also been improved and the reception area refurbished.
The centre offers more than 50 group classes catering for a range of ages.
The centre’s manager, Shane Davies, is delighted with the new look.
He said: “I had some input on the gym equipment and the layout taking into consideration the needs of the community we serve.
“I’m very pleased with how it looks and we have had some very positive feedback in the first week we’ve been open.
People like the high specification and technnology of the new equipment and are impressed with the upmarket changing rooms.
“I think the feedback we’re getting is that the overall customer experience has been vastly improved.”
The work was funded by East Northamptonshire Council and carried out by Kier and came in on budget.
