Fans can name their price to see AFC Rushden & Diamonds take on Wellingborough Town on Saturday.

AFC Rushden & Diamonds is holding the pay what you want fixture when they host Wellingborough Town at the Dog & Duck in Wellingborough on Saturday at 3pm.

The original fixture was abandoned on Boxing Day due to a floodlight issue and the club immediately announced the rescheduled game would be pay what you want.

This enables supporters of both clubs to watch the revised fixture without any additional cost.

AFC Rushden & Diamonds guaranteed promotion to the Southern League Central with a 3-1 victory on Easter Monday against Long Buckby in front of a crowd of 696.

Should their two rivals of Thurnby Nirvana and Wisbech Town fail to win on April 11 and AFC Rusden & Diamonds are also victorious it would see the Diamonds crowned champions of the UCL Premier Division.

The club is a not-for-profit community benefit society owned by more than 700 members.

Chairman Ralph Burditt said he is looking forward to the fixture, and added: “It’s a great way to give the fans something back who have been fantastic all season.

“It is also a great opportunity for anyone to come down and see what we are all about.

“Other clubs who have run pay what you want fixtures have had fantastic attendances and we will be hoping for the same.

“With the outside chance of clinching the title it promises to be a fantastic occasion.”

Manager Andy Peaks has called for the supporters to come out in force, and said: “The fans have been top drawer all season and I hope they get behind this initiative and bring friends and colleagues along to show them what we are about.

“It was great to get over the promotion line on Easter Monday, however we are going for the double and want to keep going as we have done all season.”
