The race from the Market Place to the Yards shops attracted Year Two pupils from the school, who raced each other armed with frying pans and a crepe to celebrate Shrove Tuesday.

The overall winner was seven-year-old Romain Browne, with second place going to Lacey-Jane Robbins.

Lacey-Jane said: “I had lots of fun and I won my race.

She said: “The racing has been brilliant and I’ve had so much fun, it was amazing.

“Kettering is up and coming and it will be great to see more of these events here.

“I think it’s been a bit left behind in the past but I love it here.”

The race was the first of its kind for the Yards, which opened its doors in October 2015.

Development director Michaela Jones said: “We’ve got a creperie here and we love doing community events, so we thought we’d try and bring the town together.

“It brings people through the doors and that’s important for us as we’re not corporate.

Head of creative at the Yards Amber Waterfield said: “I think this is the most fun thing we’ve ever had in Kettering.

“It’s been great to have the support of the local people.

“We thought about what we could do for the children and Michaela [Jones] has been wonderful from the start.”
