Pair assaulted and robbed by gang in Rothwell

A man and woman were assaulted and robbed by a gang of eight in a pocket park in Rothwell.

A 65-year-old man and a woman, 53, were walking home through the pocket park off Ponder Lane, Rothwell, sometime between 11.30pm and midnight on Monday, July 29, when the violent attack took place.

They were approached by a group of about eight teenagers and young men, who assaulted them both before stealing the man’s jewellery.

The thieves escaped with two stainless steel neck chains, one with five ladies rings on, the other with a double headed axe on it.

They also stole five silver rings. One with a wide band, one with a five point star design, an ornate patterned ring, a ring with a wide band with the name Maxine engraved on it and a custom designed six point Star of David ring.

The group were all white and believed to be aged between 14 and 20.

The main offender was about 5ft 6in, of medium build and wore a black sweat shirt, possibly with green writing on it.

One of the other offenders was aged about 14 and wore a short brown jacket with black buttons on it.
