The abnormal normal... Diary of a Corona Kid (week 7)

Self-isolation can provide a time to pause and think about how we live our lives and whether we truly want things to go back to ‘normal’.

Self-isolation can provide a time to pause and think about how we live our lives and whether we truly want things to go back to ‘normal’.

Originally, I couldn’t wait to go out again; to go shopping, eat out and go to theatres like the Derngate and our local cinema, The Savoy.

Obviously, I’m still looking forward to these things and – touch wood – we soon will.

In the meantime, I’ve come up with my own lockdown resolutions:

1 - Organise more catch ups. No, I don’t mean TV binges. I mean meeting up with friends and family and actually appreciating the fact that we are allowed to share HobNobs (other biscuits varieties are also available).

2 - Enjoy food more. Without restaurants, Britain was left to fend for itself. Pasta supplies were low, and anyone would have thought that we were doing a national bushtucker trial. Mmmm... rice and beans.

3 - Use the High Street. Whether it’s a department store or a small bookshop, these businesses have never needed us more.

Their passion deserves our support. Sadly Debenhams in Leicester will not re-open, as well as many others, so let’s support them if/when we can.

4 - Take all opportunities. You can never take life for granted. If it gives you lemons, make a lovely citrus flan with all that flour you have stockpiled.

5 - Try to keep these resolutions. You never normally do, but after all, do we want life to go back to ‘normal’?

Let’s discover what this ‘new normal’, that everybody’s talking about, actually is.

On the plus side, Neighbours is now filming again, so it’s a fresh slice of daily Aussie drama for me!

And as things slowly return, we will appreciate them more, which should be another good thing to come from this strange era that we’re currently living in.

See you soon, Corona Kids.
