Alasdair McNee: Wicksteed Park ready to spring into action for Easter

Wicky Bear can't wait for the park to fully open!

Not long to go now... months of hard work and preparation will culminate in the opening of our rides and attractions for the summer on March 28.

Of course, this is the start of the Easter holidays, so it makes sense to mark the children being off school and the better weather – hopefully!

Those of you who haven’t been to the park since last autumn will notice a lot of changes, including our new Wicky’s Play Factory indoor play area.

This kind of attraction is something that the park has needed for some time in my opinion – somewhere to encourage younger children to play and have adventures, even when it is cold and wet outside.

It is also part of our long-term strategy to make full use of the 147 acres we have all year round.

Other new attractions due to be completed later in the year include a new drop slide, which is being built as part of an upgraded Astroglide, which we hope will make that attraction even more popular than it already is, and our own “make a bear” cuddly toy workshop.

Of course there is also the RUSH zip wire and activity tower, which proved extremely popular after we opened it last year.

If you haven’t had a go yet, then what are you waiting for?

There are new lakeside play facilities and attractions down by the lakeside – including a new sculpture of two children paddling, which is being unveiled in a few weeks to mark the completion of our lake restoration project.

We hope the sculpture will become an iconic part of the park – and a great photo opportunity for families to link hands with the figures on the lakeside.

Our staff recruitment days went extremely well and the new staff – and those returning to us from previous years – are busy getting used to all the changes.

We hope you will enjoy all the new attractions too – or simply keep returning to the park for its wonderful countryside and a simple breath of fresh air.

You can now use our new footpaths and walkways to get right around the lake, or just pop down on a sunny day for a picnic on the grass.

It will be great to see you!
