NORTHANTS COMBINATION: Nomads seal sixth win of the season
Kettering Nomads' impressive start to the Northants Combination Premier Division season continued as they claimed a 3-0 home victory over Heyford Athletic.
Adam Langley, Michael Boyle-Chong and Mark Redding were on target as Nomads won their sixth game in eight league outings so far in the current campaign.
Desborough & Rothwell United picked up a point in a 1-1 draw at Wootton St George but elsewhere, it was a tough day for the local clubs.
Adam Smith and Adam Findley were on target for Burton United but they remain without a win after they were beaten 5-2 at Spratton.
Corby Pegasus went down 3-0 at home to Woodford United, S&L Kingswood lost by the same scoreline at Harpole and Wollaston Victoria were beaten 4-0 at home by defending champions and current leaders Blisworth.
In Division One, Weldon United suffered their first defeat of the season as they lost 3-2 in their top-of-the-table clash at Blisworth Reserves, who leapfrogged them into third place as a result.
And Higham Town also tasted a loss as they went down 5-2 at Bugbrooke A. Jamie Gould grabbed both goals for Higham.
In the first round of the NFA Lower Junior Cup, Finedon Volta maintained their good start to the season with a 2-0 win at Woodford Wolves as they progressed to the next stage.
Jordan Hay and Kortney Harewood grabbed the goals as Wilby beat Netherton United Reserves 2-0 and Corby Strip Mills also enjoyed safe progress with a 3-0 victory over Kettering Nomads Reserves.
There was penalty shoot-out drama in a couple of ties with Corby White Hart Locos winning 3-2 on spot-kicks after a 2-2 draw with Bugbrooke Reserves.
And Desborough & Rothwell United Reserves won 4-3 on penalties after a goalless draw with Irchester United Reserves.
Kettering Orchard Park went out, however, as they were well beaten 8-0 by AFC Rushden & Diamonds Under-21.
