A fish and chip shop in Kettering has been named as the top chippy in the Northants Telegraph’s annual competition.
The readers’ favourite, Werringtons Fish and Chip shop in Stamford Road, Kettering, battered the opposition in gaining the top spot in the nominations of the best traditional eateries in the area.
Werringtons beat dozens of chippies to win the coveted title of Chip Shop of the Year 2015.
Owner Raj Kooner opened the takeaway 22 years ago and has been providing top grub ever since.
Mr Kooner said: “We are thrilled to have won this amazing accolade yet again proving that we sell consistently top quality products.
“We don’t cut costs with the quality of our produce because only the best raw products make the best fish and chips.
“At Werringtons we reward our regular customers with a loyalty card and after so many visits they earn 10 per cent off their food for life.”
Shop manager Nicola Stearn said getting to know customers was important.
She said: “We get to know our customers very well, so much that when we see them heading into the shop we get their orders all ready for them so that they don’t have to wait.”
Nicola, who has worked at Werringtons for 15 years, added: “We change our oil regularly which keeps our chips perfect and our fish crispy.”
Mr Kooner said: “Fish and chips are our core business and although we do offer alternatives to cater for all tastes, we like to stick to what we do best which is top class fish and chips.”
