The number of people claiming unemployment benefits in north Northamptonshire rose in February for a second consecutive month.
In Corby, there was a particularly sharp rise in the numbers claiming jobseeker’s allowance (JSA), from 3.3 per cent in January to 3.7 per cent in February, according to the Office for National Statistics figures released this morning (Wednesday, March 19).
There was also a rise in Wellingborough from 3.2 per cent to 3.4 per cent.
But the level remained unchanged in both Kettering and East Northamptonshire at 2.8 per cent and 1.9 per cent respectively.
Across the four areas as a whole, a total of 5,844 people claimed JSA last month, compared to 5,596 in January.
But the figures remain significantly better compared to the same month in 2013 – when there were 8,381 people claiming the benefit.
