A Northamptonshire netball club is celebrating a successful year after winning a number of awards, including ‘Outstanding Club of the Year’ at a regional sports ceremony.
The Northants JMs club won the accolade during the East Midlands Golden Globe Awards, after they were secretly nominated by one of the club’s coaches.
Club vice-chairman Stacey Poole said they felt “amazing” when they recevied the award after being nominated by Rebekka Price.
She added that recent campaigns and global events encouraging women in sport had demonstrated “a positive impact on netball in general”.
Commenting on the club’s year, she said: “We have had a great season and have even seen an increase in the number of girls joining the club.”
Club founder Rita Steward bagged the Teacher Award during the ceremony at The Radisson Blu Hotel at East Midlands Airport last month.
She was recognised especially for her contribution to the sport within schools.
The Northants JMs, accredited by East Midlands Netball CAPS, have been kept running for 25 years by volunteers and welcomes players of all ages and abilities.
