Residents have voiced their concerns about speeding in the road, which has a 30mph speed limit.

Resident Rachael Humphrey says her cat was killed by a speeding driver and warned that next time it could be a person who could be hit.

She said: “I’m fast growing sick of the inconsiderate drivers, driving above and beyond the speed limit on that stretch of road.

“More so now, since one of them has knocked down and killed our beloved cat of 10 years, causing him horrific fatal injuries.

“This road needs speed humps or a permanent speed camera in place, because soon it won’t just be someone’s beloved animal that loses their life.”

Since August 1 last year, police have placed a speed enforcement van in Gipsy Lane 26 times.

They caught speeding drivers on 307 occasions, an average of almost 12 times per session.

But with no reported injuries on the road in the past three years, the county council says it must use its money on roads where collisions occur the most.

A council spokesman said: “With a limited budget, the introduction of any road safety measures need to be considered where there is the greatest need.

“There have been no reported personal injury collisions in Gipsy Lane, Kettering, in the past three years.

“There are therefore no plans to install traffic calming measures on the basis that we need to direct our resources to the most collision affected sections of the road network.”
