New wind farm plan could mean fewer turbines

Fresh plans have been submitted which reduce the potential size of an expansion at the Burton Wold Wind Farm.

Energy firm Infinergy was granted planning permission in 2012 for a five-turbine extension of the wind farm near Burton Latimer which, to date, has not been built.

However, the firm has now submitted a new scheme to Kettering Council in which it reduces the number of turbines in the extension to three.

In the planning documents, the firm says that newer turbines are more efficient and this means fewer would be required. Construction would take about six months.

Kettering Council is expected to make a decision in early April.
